LSW/LCSW Clinical Supervision

Wounded healer.  Does this describe you and your aspirations?

Would you describe yourself as an empath (or even a “hyper-empath”?)

While this description describes most clinicians that I have met, it uniquely prepares you to serve well or very poorly in this role.

Burnout is a thing.  Vicarious traumatization impacts the body/mind/soul of therapists deeply.

How do you plan to make this practice of “social working” sustainable?

What are your passions?

What niche of individuals, groups, and families lights you up and helps remind you why you started this journey to begin with?

How do you plan to focus and grow your career to get closer to this passion?

How do you plan to heal yourself outside of the time you spend with your clients?

How do you find balance in setting and maintaining boundaries from self-sabotaging tendencies and patterns which can pop up easily when we aren’t paying attention to our own needs?

Now I understand why my first clinical supervisor focused so intently on reminding me “if you don’t take care of yourself…no one else will.”  (thanks, Kelly L.)

The opportunity to receive an education as a clinical social worker is a privilege.  How you use and assist others with this privilege is up to you. In our clinical supervisory relationship, I hope to encourage you to begin witnessing yourself and the reasons and shadows/blind spots that brought you to this type of education and career path.  Together, we can address your own needs for self-care strategies that encompass a mind/body/soul approach to improved wellness. I will assist you in finding the practices that work best for you…because likely whatever those practices become—will be what you are most authentically able to share with others.  With great privilege, comes great responsibility…

Please keep in mind:

If you know a few individuals (5 members max) interested in this type of supervision, we can arrange a group time that would work for all involved.  I can and will assist you in completing necessary paperwork to complete this process. I look forward to connecting with you to co-create a clearer map of how to hike through the tough terrain of social working in a sustainable and healthy way.

“Suzanne was my supervisor through 1000 of my clinical hours while working in a community mental health agency.  I always looked forward to meeting with her, because I felt supported through all the challenges of CMH. She pointed out my strengths and helped me develop insight into the struggles of navigating the self-doubt of a new clinician, including discomfort with dual diagnosis clients, facilitating groups, and team meetings with staff, while always maintaining a professional boundary.”
